Berkeley Rose Garden 6/3/17
As usual, we had a great group of people and a lot of fun at Berkeley Rose Garden.
The mix of rains and sunshine over this last winter season meant the roses were blooming like crazy, and the smell was intoxicating.
We start off down by the roses with a warm-up that mixes Foundation Training, Z Health, and some dynamic movement, then start a game of “follow the leader” through the dirt trails and stairs. The stairs between the roses are a great place for some Animal Flow – crab walks, bear crawls, and more.
Then we grab our gear, take a sip of water, and head to the “real” staircase across the street. Tamalpais path starts off simple, then just keeps getting steeper….and steeper. From walking to running to lunging, our group went to work on the stairs.
We always like to mix in some other exercises, and today it was 30 burpees, 30 push-ups, 30 air squats, 30 pull-ups, 30 broad jumps, and probably some other stuff happened that is now a blur.
We were joined by gym-dog Frank and 25-lb slam ball “Wilson,” both of whom got carried up and down the stairs a few times (although Frank did plenty of laps on his own, thank you very much). Overall, a fabulous workout that left everyone ready for snacks and socializing at Barney’s in Berkeley later on.
